The Best Christmas Games for Kids
- Nov 24, 2021
The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner, and preparations for this year’s celebrations are already in the works. Christmas being a family event, you’ll want to plan activities that will keep everybody busy and happy. For adults, teenagers and kids alike: these Christmas games will put a smile on your face!
Christmas piñata
This fun game is ideal for families with very active kids who want to be physically entertained as well as mentally. The piñata can be in the shape of a Christmas tree, a reindeer, a gingerbread man or anything else your imagination can come up with! You can make it yourself or, if you’re not that handy, order it online. Simply suspend it and fill it with goodies and it’s game on! If you want to add a level of difficulty, blindfold the person that’s doing the hitting and choose someone else to guide them towards the piñata. Fun is guaranteed!
Christmas Karaoke
Who doesn’t love a good Christmas song? No one we know! So for this Christmas, we suggest you hook up that karaoke machine (you can also rent one!), or simply look up Christmas songs online without the lyrics. You can make two different playlists: one for the kids and one for the adults. Because letting loose on Wham’s Last Christmas is never a bad idea, but some of us are too young to know the lyrics. Cue the music!
Charades with Christmas movies
Charades is a word guessing game, in which one team has to act out the word and the other team has to guess it. When you’re acting out categories (in this case Christmas movies) pretend you’re using an old movie camera to show which category you’re playing out. If you want to alternate categories, you can also act out Christmas songs.
Candy Cane Hunt
This one is especially fun for the little adventurers among us who dream to travel to the North Pole. The only thing you need is a very big bag of candy canes, hide them all around the house and let the kids look for them. You can also include a few small Christmas presents (we suggest you take a look here for inspiration) to add a bit more fun and a reward for their enthusiasm. Do make sure that you have a small bag with goodies to give to all the kids as they leave so nobody feels left out.
Decorating Christmas cookies
One of the most traditional but yet fun Christmas activities is baking Christmas cookies. You can bake the cookies beforehand and let the kids decorate them with icing, sprinkles and other Christmas toppings. Tip: coconut flakes make a very good Santa beard.
Write a letter to Santa
Writing a letter to Santa is a very fun activity for the little kids. They can make a drawing out of it, write a list or decorate their letters with glitter. There is no limit to their creativity!
Oven Mitts Challenge
This game is super fun to play with kids and their parents! Wrap a small present in Christmas paper and gather your family around the dining table. The idea is that everyone gets 10 seconds to try and unwrap the present with oven mitts on. You can use a kitchen timer to keep the time. The person who manages to unwrap the present gets to keep it!
Secret Santa
Secret Santa is a game that requires a bit of preparation beforehand. Every person that is participating draws a name and buys a present for that person. You have to keep it a secret who’s name you drew until the gifts are handed out at Christmas. After that you play a guessing game to see which gift came from who. For all the young kids we have a broad collection of children’s gifts that their Secret Santa can bring them!
